It is the work of a compromise between the outstanding talent of designer Karl Schinkel and the fairytale dreams of Princess Marianne Wilhelmina of Orange.
It was erected in the 19th century at the behest of Marianne of Orange, a Dutch queen divorced from Albrecht, the youngest son of King Frederick William III of Prussia. The Hohenzollerns had condemned her to banishment for a misalliance with her steward.
The palace in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki has an area of almost 100,000 square metres and 100 slowly restored chambers. Prominent among them is the Great Hall with palm vaults overhung during the filming of the movie "Four Armoured and a Dog", and the dining room formerly decorated with paintings depicting Balthasar's Feast and the Feast at Cana.
