Lower Silesian Osteoporosis Centre

In the Lądek Zdrój Spa, examinations are available for Alhambra's guests in the well-equipped Lower Silesian Osteoporosis Centre.

  • densitometry of the lumbar spine L1-L4
  • femoral neck densitometry
  • densitometry of the forearm, hand bones
  • Total Body – whole skeleton densitometry in adults
  • Total Body – whole skeleton densitometry in children
  • densitometry around the femoral endoprosthesis (determination of bone density around the implanted hip prosthesis, assessment of hip endoprosthesis loosening)
  • spinal morphometry (Identification and evaluation of vertebral fractures, analysis of vertebral deformations, direct measurement of the height of vertebral bodies from the 4th thoracic vertebra to the 4th lumbar vertebra - recommended for acute and chronic pain in the spine)
  • body composition – examination determining the qualitative composition of the body - evaluation of the amount of adipose tissue, muscle and bone tissue - examination recommended for persons practising sports, using a gym, bodybuilders and persons wishing to professionally control their progress in slimming or following a diet.

Densitometry is a type of X-ray examination used to assess bone mineral density. It is the basic test used in the diagnosis of osteoporosis. It gives the doctor information that allows him to assess and predict (5 to 20 years in advance!) the risk of bone fractures and decide whether to start treatment.

The Centre's Densitometry Laboratory invites you to take bone density tests, which we perform using the DXA method on the 2014 Hologic DISCOVERY Wi medical instrument. One of the most important features of the device, apart from the high accuracy of the examination and the speed of performance, is the very low invasiveness and the low radiation dose, not exceeding 1/30th of the X-ray dose.!

When analysing the test results - irrespective of the determination of bone density in g/cm2 (BMD), as a standard, we use the FRAX method, recommended by the World Health Organisation to assess an individual's risk of osteoporotic fracture, and the innovative TBS (Trabecular Bone Score) method to measure the micro-architecture of the spongy bone substance (supplementing the BMD and FRAX methods with the TBS method increases the ability to predict the risk of fracture of major bones, including hip and spine fractures). All test results performed at the Centre are accompanied by a doctor's commentary.
